My brief biography

Achilles Kiwanuka is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Postgraduate Diploma in Monitoring and Evaluation and Master of Science in Health Informatics. He has been engaged in teaching, research and consulting at the International Medical and Technological University, Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania, for over eight years. His areas of expertise include: Public Health Informatics (including GIS), Design and Implementation of Health Information Systems, Monitoring and Evaluation, Impact Assessment and Data Analysis and Visualisation.

He is pursuing his PhD at the School of Computing and Informatics Technology, Makerere University, focusing on Patient Centred Health Information Management (HIM) Standards for Health Facilities in Uganda. His study aims at exploring current HIM standards in Uganda health care services delivery, ascertaining factors that affect their implementation in health facilities, assessing what international HIM standards are applicable in Uganda health facilities and finally develop a patient centred model for implementing HIM standards for all health facilities.

The research output(s) is expected to inform policy and the process of developing the Health Enterprise Architecture and Health Information Exchange Framework for the entire Health Sector of Uganda.
